First and Rare Edition, 1963. Published by Department of Extra-Mural Studies, University of the West Indies.
The book is in good condition, with knocks and dents in the cover, as well as some minor staining due to nature of boards and lack of dust jacket. However, the binding is tight and book is readable.
Michael Garfield Smith (18 August 1921 - 5 January 1993) was a Jamaican social anthropologist and poet of international repute. Over eight years, he embarked on an ambitious program of Caribbean research, carried out a year's field work in Nigeria, published prolifically on both the West Indies and Africa, and established his reputation as an anthropologist. While working in Grenada, his work covered the island's dependency Carriacou on social stratification, religion, kinship, and community; which is where this book Dark Puritan comes into play alongside many other works.
