Rare edition. First edition. Published by Chatto and Windus (Zodiac Books), London in 1941. The book is in good condition, with illustrated mustard/yellow boards, without its dust jacket. There is some damage to the spine (pictured), with the boards age darkened. However, the book is still in readable condition and the illustrations by Mervyn Peake really set the scene.
The Hunting of the Snark is a poem typically categorised as a nonsense poem. Written from 1874 to 1876, the poem borrows the setting, some creatures, and eight portmanteau words from Carroll's earlier poem " Jabberwocky " in his children's novel Through the Looking-Glass (1871).
