Love in a Cold Climate was first published in 1949 and the title is a direct quotation from George Orwell's novel 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying'. This is the companion volume to The Pursuit of Love and culminating in Don't Tell Alfred. The time frame of this novel is the same as The Pursuit of Love, but the focus is on a different set of characters, however Fanny remains the fictional narrator across all three books.
