The book is in excellent, almost like new condition; bound in an quarter green leather with silk moire over boards, titles in gilt to spine in an illustrated slipcase. The slipcase has minimal shelf wear. This is a large format edition. 

 

Paradise Lost was first published in ten books in 1667. The author later revised and augmented the work, which was published in twelve books in 1674. It is this version which is reproduced here, with a preface by Peter Ackroyd, introduction by John Wain and 11 illustrations by William Blake.

 

This epic poem is the retelling of the Biblical story of the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan, and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
