The book is in excellent condition with the publisher's beautiful brown cloth hardback book, with gorgeous flower decoration on front corner board and lovely gilt title impressions running across the top half of the spine. There is some mild shelf wear with light rubbing and small stains to front cover.The book comes with a nice olive green slipcase which has some sunning to it.
This was first published as a serial in The Atlantic Monthly and Macmillan's Magazine in 1880/81 and then as a book in 1881. It is one of James's most popular long novels and is regarded by critics as one of his finest.
