Published by the Folio Society, London in 1998. Very lovely Folio Society of London edition with appealing full color plates by Beryl Cook, whose style will be instantly recognizable. In slipcase, with extremely attractive blue and white patterned cloth covers. Gilt lettering on spine. Slipcase is in very good condition with no wear, and book itself is perfect. Tight binding.
The novel is set in 1930's Edinburgh, and the title character is a teacher who inspires great loyalty but ultimately proves to be misguided. Famously portrayed by Dame Maggie Smith in the 1969 film.
