First and Rare Edition (1945). Michael Joseph Ltd., London. Hardcover. The book is in good condition, cloth boards and a rare edition due to the War Economy production of the time. Very slight sunning to spine. Top edge gilt. Previous owner's inscription to frontispiece. Very solid binding with no loose pages, a few small spots of foxing but text is generally very clean throughout.

The first printing of the first edition of this novel, set in the world of rubber production. The author was best known for Grand Hotel, one of the biggest selling novels of its day. Very rare indeed to find this work in its binding. War economy production standards meant that books quickly deteriorated. Beautiful writer, equally adept in English and German, Vicki Baum was also hugely popular. Her books are well worth a read. This is a genuine rare copy.
