Published by the Folio Society, London, 1992. Hardback volume in a slipcase. Stunning colour illustrations by Paul Cox, with cream boards which are decoratively illustrated with a brown boating image inlaid with gold gilt. The slipcase is dark pink. The book has foxing to the covers, which is reflected in the price, but this does not extend into the book itself. The slipcase is in very good condition, with some minor shelfwear. Overall, a lovely edition of this classic title.
The book offers a humorous account by Jerome K. Jerome of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames, which started from Kingston-upon-Thames to Oxford and back. The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and at times, sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers, with the jokes staying fresh and witty.
